National Council of African Women: Parent Body, South Africa In 1937, Ms. Zmina Soga founded NCAW in Bloemfontein, South Africa. The purpose of NCAW is to serve in the interest of the indigenous groups of South Africa.
U.S. South Africa Foundation (USSAF) Dr. Kristen Rajoo, present Consul General from South Africa to the United States, founded and established USSAF in Chicago, IL. This foundation aims to address the plight of South Africa’s HIV/Aids orphans.
African Women’s Organization (AWO) Mrs. Felicia Johnson founded and established AWO in Chicago, IL. The organization was a product of her wanting to help communities to become self- sufficient.





Within the Matteson-based branch, NCAW Illinois Branch, there is a focus on addressing the needs of American and South African orphans who live with the HIV/AIDS virus. In our work, we are purposeful about bridging the gap between all peoples of the African diaspora.



Our vision is to support communities to become more self-sufficient, provide nutrition and health maintenance programs, and help communities access educational resources. Our Matteson, IL based branch works to achieve this vision in the community by:
Annually on World Aids Day (12/1), we plan and facilitate World HIV/AIDS & Social Health Awareness Seminar. The forum promotes solutions to many of the public health challenges faced by youth between the ages of 14 and 24.
